Cape Town Small Business Week is a business support project initiated by the City of Cape Town and supported by Provincial Government’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism of the Western Cape, in 2000.  It is a platform for presenting tangible business opportunities, financial and non-financial business development services, showcasing developmental initiatives, gaining direct contact with the small business community, facilitating business linkages and networking.  In 2007, the 3-day event was attended by 7 690 visitors, making it the most well attended SME event in the Western Cape.

This year’s Small Business Week will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre starting from Thursday, 21 August 2008 until Saturday, 23 August 2008. Swisscontact’s IFC project will have a strong presence at this year’s event, practically showcasing the project’s work.  The 3-day programme is as follows:

Thursday, 21 August 2008

The project will launch the “BDS-Finance Forum” which is aimed at creating a platform where Business Development Service (BDS) Providers and Financiers in the province can engage in dialogue to address issues affecting and impacting on SMEs’ accessing of finance.

Friday, 22 August 2008

As a demonstration of the capacity-building program of our IFC Project, we will be providing specialized training on “Credit Risk Mitigation” to participating BDS Providers.

Saturday, 23 August 2008

On this day SMEs will be trained on our financial literacy programme known as “Understanding Credit”.
